Kingsway College CONSTITUTION

CONSTITUTION

 

Kingsway College

 

 

1.     NAME AND PURPOSE:

           The school shall be known as Kingsway College.

 

1.1   PURPOSE.  The school shall serve as a Christian Institution to assist parents to “Train up a child in the way he ought to go,” (prov.22:6) so that their children may be taught to fear and love the Lord and walk in all His ways according to the Scriptures.  The school shall aim to provide excellence in Christian Education at all times.

 

1.2   The school uses the ACE SCHOOL OF TOMORROW program as adapted to meet the South Africa core curriculum.

 

1.3   The school will be registered with the proper local Authorities.

 

2. STATEMENT OF FAITH. The school adopts the Statement of Faith of the School of Tomorrow as set out in the attached addendum.                                        

 

 

3. MEMBERSHIP

 

Members shall be staff and parents with at least one child in the school, who subscribe to the Procedures as set out in the official ACE Procedures Manual.

 

3.1 DUTIES OF MEMBERS.

 

  1. Members will honour the members of the Governing Body, Pastor,

      Principal, Staff and Officials of the school; pray for them, and recognize  

      their authority in scholastic and spiritual matters.

 

  1. Members will nurture love among all members of the school, support the School with donations or fundraising projects where possible.

 

  1. Members shall faithfully attend school functions and training sessions.

 

  1. Should a member wish to remove their child from the school, they shall notify the school in writing at least one month before the child leaves the school.

 

  1. Members undertake to fulfill their financial commitment.

 

3.2.  Discipline of members:

 

A disciplinary Committee appointment by the Governing Body shall have the authority to recommended disciplinary action against any member whose conduct is deemed harmful to the school and its members as a whole. This Committee should also deal with serious disciplinary action against students. Working together with the Pastor and Principal.  Members shall at all times express loyalty and concern towards one another.  Final disciplinary action shall rest with the Governing Body.

 

 

 

4. SCHOOL GOVERNING BODY

 

4.1 Composition. The school governing Body shall consist of the Pastor,

 Principal, plus seven members duly nominated, seconded and elected at 

      a properly constituted meeting of the whole membership.  Permission             

      must be obtained from all nominees before their names may be

      submitted for election to office. From these elected members, the Board        

      shall, at its first meeting after being elected, choose a Chairman,

      Secretary, Treasurer and Convener of the Fundraising Committee.

 

4.2 Period of appointment:  Members shall be appointed annually for a two    

 year period, with half of the appointed members stepping down each year,      in order to afford continuity. Members stepping down may make

      themselves available for re-election. 

 

4.3 Duties: The Governing Body shall meet once per month, where possible,

             for the following purposes:

 

*To appoint staff, or terminate appointments where appropriate, in

accordance with acceptable labour practices; and to determine proper remuneration packages for staff.

 

* To approve financial expenditure, regulate school finances, and approve Official 

   fundraising projects.  The Governing Body will be responsible for revising  

   School and Pace fees.

 

* To determine the school’s visions and short-term goals, and keep the   

   membership motivated and moving forward to achieve God’s vision for the 

   school.

 

*To assist with problem solving and reconciliation where such services become

  necessary.

 

*To exercise oversight over school property, furniture and equipment, and to

  determine and control the wearing of school uniform.

 

* Ensure that accurate minutes are kept of all official proceedings. Minutes shall

  be proposed and seconded, and signed by the Chairman of the meeting; and

  rarified at the succeeding meeting.

 

* A quorum for the body shall be 50% + 1 of its members.

 

4.4  Disqualification of members of the Governing Body:

 

A Governing Body member that shall be absent for (3) consecutive meetings  will be dismissed from the Body.

 

 

5.STAFF RESPONSIBILITIES

 

* Staff job descriptions shall at all times be those laid by the ACE Procedures  

   Manual.

 

5.1   The Pastor: will be responsible for all matters concerning the spiritual and

        biblical content of the program of the school.  He will oversee the weekly

        devotions and assist the principal with these responsibilities.

 

5.2   The Administrator: will be responsible for the administrative running of the

        school, including the ordering of all academic and administrative material.  

        He will liaise closely with the Finance Committee and appoint an auditor for

        the School’s Financial Statements.

 

5.3  The Principal: is the educational head of the school.  He will submit

       proposals re. Staff appointments to the Governing Body, and will have a seat

       on the Governing Body, where he/she will also represent the staff.  The

       Principal may not serve as Chairman, but will liaise and be accountable to   

       the Board, through its Chairman, for his actions and decisions.

      The Principal shall oversee interaction between parents and staff, and shall  

      set up regular parent’s meetings and co-ordinate a monthly newsletter where

      possible.

 

 

  1. ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING    

 

6.1 An Annual General Meeting of all members shall be held during the first

      term of the year.  Members shall be notified in writing of such a meeting at

      least two weeks in advance.  A quorum of at least two thirds of the total of

      all members shall be necessary.  Where the quorum is not met, the

      meeting shall be rescheduled.

 

6.2   Agenda: The following items shall appear on the agenda:

                      *Minutes of the previous meeting

                      *Acceptance of these minutes by the meeting.

                        *Tabling of important decisions, which need to be taken.

                      *Notification of vacancies on the Governing Body for election   

                        purposes.

 

6.3 Report back:  The following reports shall be tabled:

                            * Pastor’s report on the School’s spiritual and social welfare.

                              * Principal’s report on the student’s academic achievements  

                              and the past year’s activities and highlights.

                                  *Financial report and printed financial statements.

                                  * Report by the Chairman of the Governing Body.

 

6.4 Special General Meeting: May be held after appropriate written notice has  

                                                been given at least two weeks prior to the           

                                               meeting.  The purpose the meeting must be 

                                               clearly stated.

 

 

 

 

  1. AMENDMENT TO THE CONSTITUTION

A General Meeting of members must approve an amendment to this constitution, with no less than two thirds approving the amendment.

 

      8.  DISCONTINUANCE OF THE SCHOOL

A decision to close down or discontinue the school shall be taken at a duly Constituted General Meeting, supported by three months’ notice of such a proposal, with the decision being supported by at least 80% of the members.  A period of at least six months shall be allowed to lapse after such a decision has been taken, before a final meeting shall be held to decide on the disposal of School assets.  Where possible, the assets of the school should be used to further the Kingdom of God in the local community.

ANNEXURE

 

 

1.Definitions – the following words shall, unless the context clearly indicates

                                otherwise, have the meanings assigned to each of them:

 

1.1. “ the school”-    Kingsway College to be governed in accordance with this 

                                Constitution

 

1.2. “the church” -  shall mean Corpus Christi

 

1.3. “the eldership” – the eldership of the church, who receive and implement 

        the vision to start the school, and raise or secure the necessary funds to

        do so, and who collectively oversee and govern the school and who will 

        act in an advisory capacity to the Governing Body and form an appeal

        board for disputes,

 

1.4. “the Principal” -  a professionally qualified teacher who heads up the

                                 scholastic and educational activities at the school,

 

1.5. “the administrator” – the staff member responsible for administering the

                                        school,

 

1.6. “the governing body” – consisting of the persons appointed in terms of

                                            persons appointed in terms of ….

 

1.7. “statement of faith” – a document containing the code of faith as set out

        in the Official documents of Kingsway College and that must be

        subscribed to and upheld by each of the members of the Management

        Board, the staff employed by the School and parents with children at the

        School.

 

1.8   Where the context so requires, any words importing the singular shall

       include the plural, and vice versa.

 

2.     A )ACE Statement of Faith

 

We believe in:

1.    The plenary, verbal inspiration of the Bible, equally and in all parts and

      without error;

2.    The one God, eternally existent Father, Son and Holy Spirit, Who created man by a direct, immediate act;

3.    The preexistence, incarnation, virgin birth, sinless life, miracles, substitutionary death, bodily resurrection, ascension of Heaven, and second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ;

4.The fall of man, the need for regeneration by the operation by the  

    operation of the Holy Spirit through personal faith in Jesus Christ as

    Saviour on the basis of grace alone, and he resurrection of every  

    person to either eternal life or eternal damnation;

5.  The spiritual relationship of all believers in the Lord Jesus Christ, living

     a life of righteous works, separated from the world, and witnessing of

     His saving grace through the ministry of the Holy Spirit;

6.  the Biblical mandate of the Great Commandment and the Great  

     Commission for all Believers to proclaim the Gospel and to disciple all

     nations.

 

2. B) Vision Statement –

 

To provide quality education linked to the character qualities of God so that every learner is equipped and released to fulfill God’s purpose in their lives;  To join hands with parents in the active discipline of their children; To evangelize and outreach in the wider community; To provide a working model to assist those who wish to become involved or further their involvement in Christian education.

 

    2. C.) Mission Statement-

 

The mission of Kingsway College is to provide Biblically based individualized Education Materials and Services with a view of developing Character and reforming education.

 

The college will make use of the School of Tomorrow concept, which focuses on individualized mastery learning enhanced with computers and audiovisual instruction, thus combining the best elements of administration and supervision with motivation and inspiration in an environment augmented with high tech equipment.

 

Procedures, technology and ideas alone do not guarantee success:  They are weak substitutes without:   Wisdom Philosophy

                                            Proper Parent Support

                                                      Effective Pupil Involvement

 

4.2  Pastor, Principal and Administrator shall 

      remain in office for as long as they retain the posts to which they were

      appointed.

 

4.4   A) Such person is, in the sole opinion of the Eldership, a person whose

           appointment to or continued membership of the Management Board

           cannot be recommended by them,

 

      B) He\she demonstrates questionable character and/or behaviour, as judged 

          on biblical grounds by the Eldership,

 

      C) He/she is convicted in a South African court of a criminal offence and  

          sentenced to imprisonment without the option of a fine or to a fine in

          excess of R500.00,

 

     D) He/she is declared insane or is diagnosed as suffering from any form of

         mental illness that affects the person’s ability to make clear decisions, or

 

     E)  He/she is declared insolvent, whether provisionally or finally.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

7.   AMENDMENT TO THE CONSTITUTION
